As Pompey in the Community enters its fourth week of crowdfunding the organisation is starting to see the building work take place and ultimately take shape!
Back in 2008, the charity moved into its current residence on Anson Road, excited but apprehensive about what the future might hold for the charity. It was the unknown for the organisation as this was a brand new era and with every step along the way came the unexpected. Moving into the facility the charity and it’s staff felt that three fully functioning classrooms would be enough to service the needs of the community, and in some cases on some days, it was even a case of would three be too many!
Now, here we stand in 2015, a full seven years down the line, and although constant obstacles have been placed in the way, the organisation continues to grow and thrive. So much so, that three classrooms is no where near enough, to service the needs of the community.
It is a remarkable situation to find ourselves in, one that makes us take a step back and be truly proud of our achievements, but also one that makes us take a step back and think, we really need to be doing more for the community.
So here we are looking at a shell take shape, with the dream that will hopefully become a reality and see us in a couple of months time double our capacity, and ultimately double what we can offer the community. As the classic saying goes, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ and the same can be said for Pompey in the Community. Hard work, grit, determination and the public pulling together creates not only three new classrooms for the organisation, but it also builds a stronger community spirit amongst many. A community spirit that has been demonstrated by the contagious support shown for the club. A community spirit that is synonymous with the ethos of the city of Portsmouth, and ultimately a community spirit that will hopefully see Pompey in the Community work with as many people as possible and benefit from what they have to offer.
Play Up Pompey!
