Portsmouth Amputee FC are to host their first home league fixture on Sunday 31st January 2016 at Park Community School, Middle Park Way, Havant, PO9 4BU from 12noon to 4.00pm.
The team was formed in May 2015, after sponsorship from local solicitors Irwin Mitchell was secured and they played their first friendly game against Arsenal Amps in July. The team then competed in their first ever competitive fixture in October as the England Amputee Football Association’s ‘National League’ hosted its first ever pre-season meeting at Manchester City Football Academy. There were five teams in attendance for the event, allof which have been newly formed or have recently been affiliated to community programmes within professional football clubs up and down Britain and Ireland.
In November, Portsmouth FC Amputee joined 5 other teams at the Lancashire FA headquarters in Preston, making it the biggest player turnout at an England Amputee Football Association league fixture with over 60 players. The three teams from the south region (Pompey, Arsenal and Peterborough) all played against the three teams in the north region (Man City, Limerick and Everton) in a 7-a-side format with the result contributing towards the league standings.
The fixture at the end of January will see the Pompey Amps in action against both Arsenal and Peterborough, the teams will all play each other in a round robin format. So, why not come along and support the Portsmouth Amputee FC and watch their incredible skills on crutches? There will be fun activities for all the family to enjoy as well as watching England International Amputee, Ray Westbrook, the Pompey captain, in action.
