Nelson’s Crew watch the top dogs!

On the morning of Tuesday 5th April, the sun was shining at Roko in Copnor Road.   Adam, Fiona, Mike and Sophie from Pompey in the Community were waiting for members of Nelson’s Crew, Pompey’s junior fan club to arrive for their exclusive look at Pompey’s first team training.  By 11.15am over 60 parents and children had arrived and were escorted onto the training ground to watch the team go through their training drills.

Ian Foster, Pompey’s First Team Coach came over to speak to the spectators and told them why the team were practising various drills and skills.  The outfield players were training together whilst the goalies were training separately with Scott Bevan, the Goalkeeping Coach.

Pompey’s mascot, Nelson, arrived at the Training Ground and was greeted by the junior fan club members with open arms.  They had their photographs taken with him and he showed off his football skills by balancing a football on his nose!!

Paul Cook arrived to oversee the training session and was immediately greeted by the young fans wanting autographs and photographs.  Cookie obliged by signing shirts, balls, programmes and team photographs, before making his way over to the players.  Once the training was over, Cookie invited the spectators to come in a bit closer and watch as the players all joined together to play a short game.

The Nelson’s Crew members were then invited to line the walkway between the training pitches and the changing rooms to obtain the autographs and photographs that they wanted from all the players.  The players walked through the throng of young fans having their photographs taken by Mums, Dads, Nans and Grandads and signed everything that was put in front of them!

There was a lovely friendly atmosphere as the players chatted with the children and their parents, asking if they had enjoyed their time at the training ground.

The event was a huge success and enjoyed by everyone who attended.  It is such a pleasure to be able to hold this event and see how much it means to the members of Nelson’s Crew, Pompey’s future fans.

  1. The kids loved it. Thanks to all at Pompey ITC and the player and staff of the club who took the time to sign all those autographs for the kids!! Great day.

    • Hi Stuart,

Really glad, you and the children enjoyed the experience. Pompey in the Community are really focusing on fan engagement for the new season, so hopefully there will be lots more to get involved with in the near future.

Thank you for your kind words and also for taking the time to read our blog.

      Have a great day!

      The PITC team
