On Sunday 18th September 2016, Pompey in the Community was invited to hold a stall at Fratton Big Local’s annual Family Festival held along Fratton Road.
Pompey in the Community is now working with Fratton Big Local (FBL) to deliver free youth provision in the Fratton area. The aim of the project is to engage as many young people in sport, male & female, aged between 9-18 years old through our free and open access community sports sessions.
The aim for Pompey in the Community on the day was to promote our new Fratton sessions and engage with the local community about what they wanted to see locally for their young people. We offered free touch tennis and football activities to young people and their families throughout the day and promoted our work in the community.
In the afternoon, on one of the performance areas our dance coach offered a taster session of dance and we used this as a way to encourage young people to join our new flash-mob dance sessions that we have starting up soon. We aim to deliver community sessions to the young people and families with the aim to performing a Flash Mob in the local area in the autumn. As you can see, the dance coach and volunteer had great fun engaging young females to show off their dances moves.
On the day, we engaged 70 young people, both male & female, between the ages of 9-18 years old to join in our free football, touch tennis and dance activities, as well as those who showed an interest in what sports they would like to see in the Fratton area. All the young people enjoyed themselves; they were very enthusiastic about our new Fratton sessions and best of all the weather held out for a great sunny Sunday event.
Our new sessions start on Monday 3rd October:
Every Monday – MultiSports 4-5pm at Fratton Community Centre
Every Monday – MultiSports 7-8pm at Portsmouth Academy for Girls
