Costa serves up a cup of a different kind

Pompey Blues won the first ever ‘Costa Cup’ Walking Football Tournament hosted by Emsworth & Hayling WFC, sponsored by Costa Coffee at Middle Park Community School, Havant.

Emsworth & Hayling won Group ‘A’ without conceding a goal with Southampton finishing runners up and Group ‘B’ winners were Pompey with Bournemouth grabbing second place.

In the semi-final against a tough Southampton side, Pompey played some outstanding football with Andy Olive netting twice and Howard Payne grabbing the other for an emphatic 3-0 victory. Emsworth & Hayling thrashed Bournemouth in the other semi-final to set up the prospect of a high-quality final.

Pompey did not disappoint against a strong well organised team, racing into an early two goal lead thanks to strikes from Howard Payne and Robin Emms. With time running out Emsworth & Hayling tested Pompey’s well organised defence and were rewarded with a late consolation goal but it was not enough to stop Pompey winning an entertaining final.

Many thanks to the sponsor ‘Costa Coffee’ and to Emsworth & Hayling Island for organising the tournament along with the excellent refreshments provided by ‘The Wheelrights Arms’ for the presentation.

Well done, Guys……our first real silverware, which we hold until next year when we are to play and defend our hold on the cup again.
