On Thursday 26th January Pompey in the Community along with managers, train drivers and security staff from South West Trains and Portsmouth FC football players took part in a photo shoot at Portsmouth & Southsea train station.  The reason for this was to take some pictures to promote our ‘Off The Rails’ project.  Pompey in the Community have been working with South West Trains for the last 6 years to make young people more aware of the dangers at train stations and level crossings etc. Between us we have attended many schools in and around Portsmouth and spoken to thousands of young people (predominantly year 5 & 6’s)

Victory Primary were invited to take part in the photo shoot for the afternoon and brought along 6 of their students. They got to meet two Portsmouth FC football players, Kal Naismith and Christian Burgess who kindly came along.  After the photos had been taken they each received a signed poster and PUP as a thank you.  In between takes they sat around talking to the players and asking questions. It was a really nice, relaxed atmosphere and Lots of laughs were had and some funny photos taken.  Kai and Christian really got into their roles as security officers and even got to wear some of the uniform!

The photos that were taken that day will be used for promotional purposes over the course of the next year for the Off The Rails project.

James Lang (education manager at Pompey in the Community) said ‘This project has been running for a few years now and we have built up a really good rapport with South West Trains. The sessions at school also involve two members of South West Trains frontline staff coming in to speak to the young people.  They are Tim Joy (security officer) and Martin Corcoran (Train driver) who attend and speak about their experiences. ‘

The day went very well, so a massive thank you to everyone who took part and made it a success, of course the players but also the behind the scene staff members from Pompey in the Community and South West Trains.
