On the 12th February Pompey National Citizen Service Graduate Joshua McPheat joined over 1000 runners, completing the Portsmouth coastal half marathon. An amazing show of athleticism from the great island city!
Josh graduated from the Pompey NCS programme in September 2016 and has continued to be involved with Pompey in the Community, attending all the graduate sessions we run here.
He completed the 13.1 mile coastal half marathon in two hours and one minute which is an incredible time for being his first ever competitive race.
Josh described the experience as – “an amazing opportunity to show off all of his hard work and training” and that – “The race went super well, I enjoyed every second of it and the atmosphere was amazing. Mile 11 was by far the hardest but I’m so happy that I overcame my obstacles like the muddy beaches. I am excited to announce that I have secured a place in the Great North run, for which I hope to run for Pompey in the community again”.
To date Josh has raised a huge £268 online and in person, with more donations still coming in! We at Pompey in the Community would like to say a massive thank you and congratulations to Josh, he should be really proud of what he has achieved.
If you would like to help him reach £300, here is his Just Giving! http://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Pompey-in-the-Community1
