Pompey’s loss is Ghana’s gain

Blake Dowdell a 19 year old Pompey NCS Graduate has secured a place on the International Citizen Service to travel to Ghana in July.

The programme aims to bring together young people from all over the United Kingdom to volunteer in some of the poorest communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America where he will be part of a team of fourteen 18-25 year olds.

Blake is very excited about the opportunity and said “As someone who has suffered from a physical disability all my life. I have realised that I am very lucky to have been born and raised in a country who are equipped to treat my condition. So, I decided I will go to Ghana and help people with similar circumstances and hopefully bring my own knowledge and experiences, so they can live happier and healthier lives” and that “There I will help raise awareness for people suffering from a physical disability and little to no human rights”.

Blake will stay with a host family in Ghana for the duration of the programme. In order to participate in the scheme ICS ask their participants to raise a minimum of £800 for the charity in the local community.

On Saturday April 29th , Blake will be doing a sponsored walk from Southsea pier to Gunwharf Quays as well as an up and coming Curry and Quiz night that Blake and the Pompey NCS team are working on.

This is such a great cause that even the littlest of donations will be greatly appreciated.
